Living Out the Gospel in Brazil
Recently, I went out to Piauí (about five hours away from where we live in Petrolina, Brazil) to show the "JESUS" movie at two new locations. I was once again invited by Jean and Ana Carlos da Silva, a missionary couple who lives in Piauí. On Friday evening, we showed the movie to about 90 people. On Saturday night I showed the film to almost 200 people.

The Silvas have made a tremendous impact on the community. Both are elementary education teachers. Two of their students walk almost four miles to come to class, and one comes from as far as five miles away. I talked to the parents of two of the children and they are so thankful for these classes, because their children are learning to read and write.
I met Sr. Modesto, who has been one of Jean’s biggest challenges. He recently turned 70 years old. He still hasn’t given his life over to the Lord, but he said he will! Modesto, who has never married and is still a hard-working man, has adopted Jean and his family. He is always bringing something for them to eat, or use, and he really enjoys their presence.
Our Bible school in Northeast Brazil trains people in their own context to reach the many who have not yet heard the gospel in the northeast part of the country. Many times the gospel we preach is not always heard. The message we live speaks louder and clearer, which is how it should be. The Silvas are living out the gospel in conditions that you and I would find very difficult, and that is drawing people to Jesus.
