GlobeServe Partner Dies in Indonesian Plane Crash

Pastor Evans Sinaga, a trainer graduate of Bethany School of Missions, Singapore, was killed in the September 5 plane crash in Medan, Indonesia. "Pastor Sinaga leaves behind his wife and five children," reports Dr. Tan Kok Beng, CEO of Asia Pacific Mission/Bethany School of Missions (BSM), Singapore, one of Bethany's GlobeServe partner schools.

A Trust for Paraguay Missions

Ten years ago, Linda Caldwell read an article in her hometown newspaper about a two week STEM (Short-Term Evangelical Missions) trip to Paraguay taken by a teen-aged boy. Thinking he might be interested, she showed it to her husband, Bob, who remembers, "The Lord set it in my heart very strongly to find out more about Mission Betania del Paraguay."

Longhouse, Old Ad Buildings Gone, But Not Forgotten

These were a few of the sentiments expressed on the walls of Bethany's Longhouse residence on July 1, 2005, shortly before the building was razed. The previous day had seen the demolition of Old Ad, the first building on Bethany's campus.

New Partnership with Africa School of Missions in South Africa

Bethany International has recently formed a partnership with Africa School of Missions (ASM) in White River, South Africa. ASM seeks to equip its students for excellence in global ministry. Since 1985, they have endeavored to meet this need through a training program with a practical approach that emphasizes training not just the head but also the heart and hands for service.

Working With International Partners to Rebuild the Lives of Tsunami Victims

Johannes (Joe) and Dharma (Peter) are two good reasons why Bethany has started to work among Indonesia's tsunami victims. Both are Indonesians who have a heart for reaching their Muslim neighbors. They have started a new relief and development organization called Peduli Bangsa (Caring for the Nations) and they have already sent a small team to Banda Aceh to begin work with the children and the homeless.

Update from Bethany‛s relief workers on the ground in Indonesia

Like many Christians, Bethany's staff and students felt called to respond to the suffering in the Indian Ocean region as a result of the recent earthquake and tsunami. Less than two weeks after the disaster, Bethany sent a team to Indonesia to take medicine and funds for the relief effort, and to evaluate partnership opportunities. Rand Olson and Paul Strand were joined in Jakarta by Rita Eltgroth and Roger Schrage, long-term relief and development workers based in Indonesia.
