Bethany International Outfitting for Missions

A Dream Fulfilled

Sixty years ago, the founders of Bethany International dreamed big dreams and cast a vision to reach the least-reached with the gospel of Christ by training missionaries and sending them out to the farthest corners of the world. The vision to train and send missionaries to the least-reached continues to this day, flourishing amid new partnerships and methods.

Heart for Missions

A couple from the West Coast shares this dream with Bethany International Ministries. As a Bethany College of Missions graduate, his heart is in supporting missions. To put their dreams where their hearts are, they placed real estate assets worth about $150,000 into an irrevocable Bethany Charitable Trust. Naming several of their favorite charities, these stewards earmarked half of their irrevocable trust to Bethany’s Board of Directors for the area of greatest need.

Now, they don’t have to just dream about God using some of what He gave them in estate assets, but they know that when the Lord calls the surviving spouse home to heaven that an undivided percentage of the net sales proceeds of their residence will help to spread the gospel!

How Does This Work?

Bethany International will utilize a diversified investment vehicle known as a variable annuity to maximize their income. The unitrust is a congressionally approved charitable tax-shelter. Because the principle of the unitrust is irrevocable designated for IRS approved charities, the sale of the highly-appreciated real estate within the unitrust occurs capital gains-tax free. Plus, a charitable income tax deduction is also generated based on the current fair market value of the future gift to charity, thus helping defray other income taxes.
