Creative Gifts
Bethany Fund
The Bethany Fund is the annual giving program for Bethany International. It enables alumni, parents of current and former Bethany students, friends of Bethany and others to make gifts each year in support of Bethany, its academic programs, and its deserving students. The fund plays an essential role in meeting the annual operating costs of the college.
What Is the Purpose of the Fund?
The tuition and fees that Bethany students pay only cover a portion of what it actually costs the college to provide education for them. Since Bethany is a private institution, it is not subsidized with public tax dollars such as state universities are. Bethany therefore relies upon gifts from individuals and other private sources to help provide the additional funding necessary to operate each year. The Bethany Fund makes the college’s financial future stronger by establishing a solid base of donors. Increased giving by alumni, parents and friends will assist the effort to attract major donations from foundations and individuals. By involving a larger group of people in a wider variety of programs, the Fund will solidify essential support for the college.
How Will the College use Bethany Fund Gifts?
Every gift to the Bethany Fund is used for the unrestricted support of the college and helps meet day-to-day financial commitments. Your gift helps provide student scholarships, pay campus utility bills, buy books for the library, meet faculty and staff payrolls, maintain facilities, and meet other pressing needs.
How Do I Give to the Bethany Fund?
You may send your gift to the Advancement office at Bethany International. Checks should be made payable to Bethany and marked “Bethany Fund.” Gifts in the form of stocks, bonds, securities or other property may also be given.
Are Bethany Fund Gifts Tax-Deductible?
Yes. Bethany International is approved by the Internal Revenue Service as fully qualified to receive tax-deductible charitable gifts.
How Is Money Raised?
Bethany’s Advancement office uses three principal methods of raising money:
- First there are face-to-face meetings with alumni and friends to thank individuals for past support, to present the current needs and opportunities of the college, and to invite their participation.
- Another way we stay in touch and raise funds for the college is through the annual phonathon. Bethany International makes these calls each fall. By doing this donors have the opportunity to make a charitable gift to the college before the end of the tax year.
- The third way funds are raised for the Bethany Fund is through mailings. Four mailings are planned this year.
Bethany is very fortunate to have a loyal group of alumni and friends who faithfully support the college. During the 2006 fiscal year, over $280,000 was raised for the Bethany Fund. While we are grateful for the good results of the past year, we count on your continued support through your prayers and through your faithful giving. Such support helps Bethany prepare Christian young men and women for future lives of leadership and service.

Corporate Matching Gifts
Double your dollars - Many employers will match gifts made to Bethany International!
What is the Employer Matching Gift Program?
Many employers have joined the ever-growing list of companies that will match the gifts employees and their spouses make to an accredited college or university. Some companies will match the gift one-to-one, and some will double-match or even triple-match your gift. We refer to this type of gift as an Employer Matching Gift.
What does this mean for you? It means the gift you make to our students may at least double in its impact on students.
How do I help Bethany International secure the Employer Matching Gift funds?
Matching gifts companies have forms that you must complete after you make your gift to Bethany. Currently, more than 7,500 parent companies, subsidiaries, and divisions in the United States and Canada have a corporate matching gift program. In most cases, you can obtain the appropriate form from the personnel or human resource department of your employer. Complete the form, sign it and mail it to our Advancement office. We will document the receipt of your gift to us on this same form. The completed form will be mailed back to the corporation. Because of the extra effort you made, your gift will be at least doubled!
Is any gift I make to Bethany International eligible for match by a matching gifts company?
Almost all gifts made to Bethany would be eligible for match. However, some companies do have rules guiding what kind of gift they will match. For instance, some companies will not match gifts that are given by the donor for restricted purposes.
If you are thinking of making a gift and are uncertain of your company’s rules, why not contact them or us beforehand. One of us can help you make your gift in a manner that will ensure its match by your employer.

What to Give
Any type of asset that you irrevocably donate to Bethany International results in a current income tax deduction. Also, there may be other tax benefits to your contribution as well.
The simplest method would be to give cash. However, when you contribute long-term appreciated securities to Bethany, you have the added benefit of owing no tax on the gain.
Some people have given Bethany tangible personal property (such as an art object, prized collection, or antiques). In doing this one can take a deduction for its full fair market value if the gift is related to our exempt function.
These are just three types of assets you can donate outright for Bethany to receive immediately. Or you can use them to fund a planned gift that gives you lifetime income before we receive the gift.
